The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham China) wishes to congratulate the Chinese people and the Chinese government on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Since the advent of Reform and Opening Up in 1979, China has embarked on a path of unprecedented economic growth and development. Hundreds of millions of people have been lifted out of poverty and China’s economy is now the world's second largest, producing some of the world’s leading technologies. Over that time, China has become a leading trade partner of the US, and both a source of, and destination for, foreign direct investment. The US business community has long been part of China’s development story and is proud of its contributions to China’s economy and rise on the world stage.
AmCham China was originally founded in 1919 with only eight member companies. Today, AmCham China represents nearly 900 member companies and 3,500 members, a testament to both the growth and the enduring importance of the US-China economic relationship.
Despite the ongoing trade and tariff tensions between China and the US and the challenges that affect many of our members operating in the China market, AmCham China continues to believe that the US-China economic relationship remains essential to the well-being of the US, China, and the whole world. Our members view China as a priority market and continue to seek opportunities for mutually beneficial US-China economic engagement.
Even as we celebrate the past, AmCham China looks to the future and will continue to support the American business community in China, work to promote constructive and sustainable US-China economic relations, serve as a bridge between our two nations, and in doing so contribute to the growth of the Chinese and American economies and the prosperity and well-being of the Chinese and American peoples for many years to come.
