Advocacy is one of the most important services that AmCham China delivers to our members. In recent weeks, we have been actively engaging with various government departments and business communities across China. The engagements have included meetings with government officials and business leaders, as well as discussions on investment opportunities and our 2023 Business Climate Survey (BCS).
Wuhan
Wuhan On March 23, Michael Hart, President of AmCham China, and representatives from top healthcare companies, including Edwards Lifesciences, Integra, Amgen, Varian Medical Systems, Stryker, Merck, Medtronic, and Janssen, met with Hu Zhonghai, the Director of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). During the meeting, Director Hu welcomed the delegation led by President Michael Hart, discussed past cooperation with AmCham China, and expressed appreciation for the organization’s dedication to promote communication and cooperation between US enterprises and China, as well as the advocacy the Chamber has demonstrated for US businesses in China. Hu emphasized his willingness to establish a regular communication mechanism with AmCham China to jointly promote mutually beneficial cooperation between Hubei Province and the American business community through enhanced exchanges. Michael Hart introduced the Chamber’s recent work priorities and expressed the willingness to explore more investment opportunities across different industries in various parts of China, including Hubei. Representatives of the delegation shared their development and achievements in China and expressed their desire to pursue more opportunities in Hubei Province.
The delegation also participated in an industry-focused dialogue with the Hubei Provincial Health Commission and Medical Security Bureau, as well as other relevant departments. Wang Yu, deputy director of the Provincial Healthcare Security Bureau, Hu Rong, secondary inspector of the Provincial Health Commission, and the heads of relevant departments engaged in conversations with the company representatives. Both sides had a productive discussion covering more than 40 topics. President Michael Hart expressed his gratitude to the Hubei Provincial Committee of CCPIT for its organization and to the Provincial Health Commission and Medical Security Bureau for their warm reception. Hart highlighted that government-enterprise dialogues can assist foreign enterprises in China to better understand the local market and its development opportunities, promoting their integration into China’s economic and social development.
During the Second Meeting of International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Governor of Hubei at the 2023 Cherry Blossom Viewing: Business Cooperation & Fortune 500 Dialogue with Hubei, AmCham China President Michael Hart delivered a keynote speech and was awarded a certificate by Hubei Governor Wang Zhonglin.
Chengdu
On March 21, AmCham China President Michael Hart, Jeffrey Bernstein (Co-chair of AmCham China Healthcare Committee), and Amanda He (General Manager of Chapters) attended the China Business Climate Survey Report Launch in Chengdu and had breakfast with more than 20 members and friends. Hart presented the key findings from the newly published Report and received feedback from participants.
The delegation also visited Tianfu New Area and had a meeting with Ling Ge, General Engineer and Director General of the Headquarters Economy Bureau, Management Committee of Sichuan Tianfu New Area.
Next, the delegation visited the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Economic Cooperation and had a meeting with Qing Fang, Deputy Director of the bureau. During the meeting, AmCham China gained a comprehensive understanding of Sichuan Province’s current economic situation, business environment, and unique advantages. The leaders also exchanged views on the upcoming AmCham China delegation to Sichuan Province in June.
Finally, the delegation visited the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Sichuan Council and had a meeting with President Ms. Huang Li. President Huang discussed the exchanges between Sichuan CCPIT and the American business community, and welcomed more US investment in Sichuan. President Michael Hart expressed his desire for the two organizations to maintain close communication and jointly promote the investment and development of US businesses in Sichuan.
Tianjin
On March 23, Zhou Shengxi, Deputy Director General of the Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau, held a meeting with 10 member representatives of AmCham China Tianjin. The group had in-depth discussions and exchanges with heads of more than ten divisions. The member companies’ questions and current challenges were addressed one by one.
Dalian
On March 16th, the President of CCPIT Yingkou, along with the Vice-President of CCPIT Dalian, visited AmCham China Northeast Chapter Chair Ladon Ghalili. Both parties discussed future cooperation and the organization of a tour or delegation to visit Yingkou City in Northeast China.
On March 29th, AmCham China Northeast Chapter visited the Health Commission of Dalian to discuss further cooperation and exchange questions and ideas regarding international healthcare resources in Dalian.
On March 30th, AmCham China Northeast Chapter attended the American States Roadshow to Dalian – Trade and Investment Promotion Seminar organized by CCPIT Dalian and the Commercial Department of the US Consulate General in Shenyang.
As always, going forward, AmCham China will continue to work to foster a positive business climate in China by providing a platform for US businesses to engage with the Chinese market and government agencies. These efforts are essential to maintain the long-standing economic ties between the two nations and to promote mutual benefits and growth for both countries.
