The American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization representing nearly 1,000 U.S. companies operating across China, including most of the Fortune 500. The Chamber’s nationwide mission is to help American companies succeed in China through advocacy, insights, relationships, and business support services. With offices in Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, and Wuhan. AmCham China has 25 Working Groups and holds more than 300 events per year.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary (50%)

  • Primary staff responsible for driving the strategy, design, and delivery of the Policy+ service offering, working in collaboration with relevant colleagues of all AmCham China teams:
    • Enable member access to government officials and policy experts to discuss and engage in topics of common interest to Policy+ subscribers;
    • Design events with members, policy-makers, and influencers around timely topics of interest to Policy+ subscribers;
    • Utilize the Policy+ program to deepen chamber relationships with working-level government officials;
    • Explore and cultivate potential research partner institutions and topics for co­ branded projects;
    • Develop AmCham China-branded thought leadership, internally and with external partners, on topics of relevance to Policy+ members;
    • Prepare and deliver briefings on behalf of AmCham China;
    • Plan, execute in-person/online events for P+ members and deliver post-mortem debrief to the management team.
  • Track, research, and analyze Chinese regulatory and legislative changes and provide policy insights on a regular, timely basis to support members with the formulation of their business strategies, approaches to government engagement, and responses to China’s current and potential policies and policy environment.
  • In light of the Chamber’s long-term strategy, leverage Policy+ to initiate innovative and high-impact dialogues (e.g, Track 11) to grow the Chamber’s influence, develop thought leadership, and create new, high-level channels for addressing long-standing issues.

Primary (30%, cyclical)

  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual Business Climate Survey Report, including securing survey partners, driving member response, and working with the partner to produce the report, and lead the launch event for the report.

Secondary (20%):

  • Plan and implement other events, meetings and projects, in close coordination with other members of the GAP and other teams;
  • Regularly engage with and provide timely policy support to members, government officials and AmCham China staff;
  • Support AmCham DC Door knock as well;
  • Deliver daily/regular government policy updates and call for comments from both Chinese and US government;
  • Support the management of interns of GAP team.

Experience and Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Political Science, Economics, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3/5 years (Associate/ Manager) of experience in policy research, analysis, and project management;
  • Proven track record of managing research projects from inception to completion.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese;
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly to diverse audiences;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and data analysis techniques is a plus.

Knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of policy analysis, public finance, and legal frameworks;
  • Familiarity with research methodologies and best practices in policy research.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and public consultations;
  • Ability to stay updated with current policy issues and trends.
