Over September 27 and 28, AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan attended the 2021 Annual Conference on Multinational Corporations Investment in Guangdong.
On September 27, Gilligan attended the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government welcome dinner along with Deputy Mayor, Zhang Yong and Director of Guangzhou’s Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Hong Qian.
On September 28, Gilligan, on behalf of AmCham China, signed a MOU with the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce. This extraordinary signing marks, not only the first time that Guangdong Province has officially signed a mutual win-win cooperation agreement with any Chamber of Commerce, but also sends a positive signal to AmCham China members as well as the whole foreign business community in China about Guangdong’s desire to attract and encourage MNC’s operations in the province.
The MOU stipulates that AmCham China and the Guangdong government will establish a high-level meeting and working group to coordinate projects and exchange information. Gilligan called the signing of the MOU a good start and said that AmCham China will take the opportunity to deepen its cooperation with the Province to provide better economic and trade services to members.
In the late afternoon of the 28th, Gilligan spoke on behalf of AmCham China as a Global Investment Advisor of Guangdong at a roundtable meeting with Governor Ma and other MNC senior executives. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of US-China sub-national diplomacy and Guangdong’s role in that, in addition to sharing member feedback on the recent power cuts and shortage in Guangdong and other provinces in China.
