From May 10-12, AmCham China led a delegation of healthcare member companies including Abbott, Merck, and Edwards to participate in the 3rd BEYOND International Technology Innovation Expo (BEYOND Expo) held at the Venetian Macau. The expo’s theme was “Technology Redefined,” and it focused on three sub-brands: Healthcare, Sustainability, and Consumer Tech. The BEYOND Expo aimed to promote comprehensive industrial upgrading and transformation through independent exhibition areas, industry summits, and in-depth exchanges in various sub-fields of technology.
On May 10, on the opening ceremony of the BEYOND Expo, lots of high-level government officials, high-level corporate executives, and top experts in technology, economics, and healthcare attended and gave opening remarks, including Iat Seng Ho, Chief Executive of the Macau SAR; Dr. Gang WAN, President of the National Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology; Weizhong Wang, The Governor of Guangdong Province; Kishore Mahbubani, Former President of the United Nations Security Council; Jin Liqun, president and Chair of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, etc.
On the afternoon of May 10, at the Life Science Summit of the BEYOND Expo, Edward Wang, Director of the Healthcare Industry Group at AmCham China, hosted the sub-panel “Innovation in Medical Devices and Equipment.” Hualei Zhang, Government Affairs Director of Abbott, and Jia Xie, Senior Director of Edwards, were invited as guest speakers. They had an in-depth discussion on topics such as the application of innovative American medical products in the Chinese market, the innovative combination of AI and medical devices, and the empowerment of traditional healthcare by big data technology. Combining their companies’ products and their own profound insights into the industry over many years, the guest speakers analyzed the impact of relevant policies on medical devices in the Greater Bay Area on the application and launch of innovative products in China, as well as the development of future innovative products. They also expressed a positive attitude towards the innovative development of medical devices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
On the evening of May 10th, AmCham China was invited to participate in the Leader Dinner, and nearly 1,000 guests attended. AmCham China team and representatives of Merck expressed their gratitude to the BEYOND Expo team for the significance of the event to the high-quality development of medical care in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

On the afternoon of May 11, AmCham China was invited to participate in the closed-door meeting on the innovation development of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Qiongna Ma, vice president of AmCham China, attended the meeting. Participating organizations include Macau Health Bureau, Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau, Chinese Medical Association, Guangdong Provincial Healthcare Commission, Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration, Macau Kiang Wu Hospital, United Family Hospital, Merck, Abbott, AstraZeneca, Fosun Pharmaceutical, etc.
The meeting mainly focused on the application of the “Hong Kong-Macau Medicine and Device Registration and Approval ” System in the hospitals of the Greater Bay Area, the registration and approval of medical devices for healthcare companies in the Greater Bay Area, and the development of Macau Cotai Healthcare Complex. Questions were answered in detail and reasonable suggestions were put forward by government departments. Baige Zhao, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress of the PRC, made a concluding speech, expressing her appreciation of the high-quality medical development strategy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and encouraging the government, enterprises, and hospitals to Strengthen communication and cooperation in medical policy convergence and innovation development coordination in Hong Kong, Macao, and the mainland in the future.
