On August 20, 2021, AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan attended the Shandong Dialogue with Foreign Chambers of Commerce. At the virtual event, Gilligan spoke to the Shandong Province Party Secretary Liu Jiayi and Governor Li Ganjie.
Gilligan highlighted AmCham China’s previous cooperation with the Shandong Department of Commerce and municipalities, including Jinan, Yantai, and Qingdao. In 2017 Shandong and AmCham China jointly hosted the Shandong-US Business Week. Since then, the two sides have developed a deepened trust and increased understanding. The years of collaboration have facilitated constructive conversations covering a wide range of industry-specific topics, driving a healthy, stable, sustainable environment for American business’ development and operations in Shandong.
Gilligan reaffirmed AmCham China’s praise of Shandong’s Replace Old Growth Drivers with New Ones Strategy and its determination to open up further. As a close friend of Shandong, AmCham China will continue to support Shandong in optimizing its business environment. Meanwhile, AmCham China will continue to advocate for more American companies to be involved in Shandong’s key industries and projects.
Gilligan wrapped up by sharing his observations and recommendations on several mid to long-term challenges that may impact foreign investment’s daily operations. His comments covered US-China political-economic interactions, the halt of global business travel, market access & National Treatment, and the cancellation of non-taxable allowances for foreign employees.
