On July 21 and 23, AmCham China’s US-China Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP) launched the second session of the China Aviation Culture & Education Accelerator Program (the program), in collaboration with Boeing’s “Soaring with Your Dreams” Program in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. There were 35 students and 25 teachers from 22 schools in rural areas across the country participating in this program. Events were held at the Boeing Zhoushan Completion and Delivery Center, and the FedEx Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub.
On July 21, at an event at the Boeing Zhoushan Delivery Center, Sherry Carbary, President of Boeing China and ACP Co-Chair, delivered opening remarks to welcome the students and teachers participating in the final round of the Boeing China Airplane Model Contest, as well as the representatives from US Consulate in Shanghai and ACP member companies attending the program.
Experts from Textron and Pratt & Whitney shared their knowledge on aviation engines and general aviation, which provided the students and teachers with a more comprehensive understanding of the aviation industry.
The afternoon session was marked by the exciting airplane model contest, where students crafted their aircraft models. ACP member company and US Consulate Shanghai representatives participated in this session as judges. The contest demonstrated the students’ dedication, creativity, and adaptability.
After the student contest, representatives from U.S. Consulate in Shanghai, Textron, Pratt& Whitney, AOPA and ACP staff met with local officials from Zhoushan Aviation Industrial Park Management Committee and Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport. During these meetings, the US side stressed the importance of the program to promote friendships, educational and cultural exchanges.
Wang Quanzhong, Deputy Director of Zhoushan Aviation Industrial Park Management Committee and Wang Qijun, Flight Operations Manager of Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport, briefly introduced Zhoushan and its favorable conditions for the development of aviation industry. Both sides welcomed more CSR interactions such as this one, showing the long-term benefits of investing in young people.
Continuing the journey, on July 23, the students and teachers were treated to an enlightening visit to FedEx Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub. The FedEx team thoughtfully designed a tour to provide students with hands-on experiences and learning about interesting technologies and equipment within the Hub.
AmCham China US-China Aviation Cooperation Program remains committed to supporting and encouraging similar endeavors that inspire and nurture the dreams of future aviation talents. We remain thankful to our ACP member companies–The Boeing Company, Textron, P&W, and FedEx, the U.S Embassy in Beijing and US Consulate in Shanghai–for your support.
