An AmCham China delegation, led by Chair Alvin Liu and President Michael Hart, completed a successful three-day visit to Washington, DC, from February 19-21, engaging with key US government agencies, think tanks, and industry leaders to strengthen US-China business ties. The visit featured in-depth discussions on aviation cooperation, trade policy, and geopolitical developments impacting the bilateral relationship.
Day 1: US-China Aviation Briefing
The trip kicked off with the US-China Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP) 2025 Strategic Planning Meeting – US Global Leaders’ China Aviation Briefing. The event brought together leading US aviation companies, representatives from the Chinese Embassy, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to discuss the evolving aviation business landscape and opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Emphasizing the importance of people-to-people exchanges, the discussions reinforced the commitment to long-term industry relationships and collaboration on aviation safety.
The evening concluded with a dinner hosted alongside the Chinese Embassy and corporate partners, providing an opportunity for informal exchanges on pressing US-China aviation issues.
Day 2: US Trade and Policy Discussions
The delegation’s second day centered on engagements with US policymakers and thought leaders. Meetings with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) focused on trade policy, market access challenges, and the evolving regulatory environment for US businesses in China.
A company roundtable luncheon facilitated discussions between AmCham China representatives and corporate stakeholders, providing insights into the broader business climate and operational challenges in China.
Afternoon sessions at the Heritage Institute and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) delved into geopolitical shifts affecting US-China relations, supply chain resilience, and the outlook for bilateral economic engagement in 2025 and beyond.
The evening featured a gathering with AmCham China alumni and friends, including former EU Chamber President Joerg Wuttke, fostering discussions on the long-term trajectory of US-China commercial relations and the role of the business community in maintaining dialogue.
Day 3: Diplomatic and Congressional Engagements
The final day of the visit began with a meeting at the Chinese Embassy, where discussions focused on commercial diplomacy and ways to maintain business-driven engagement amid shifting policy landscapes.
The delegation then met with staffers from the US House Select Committee on China, addressing key concerns of the American business community and providing firsthand perspectives on the realities of operating in China. A separate discussion with the US Department of Commerce focused on trade facilitation, investment trends, and opportunities for regulatory collaboration.
With a packed schedule of high-level engagements, AmCham China’s visit to Washington, DC, reinforced the Chamber’s role as a key bridge between the US and China. The delegation’s discussions underscored the importance of pragmatic engagement, ensuring that US companies remain well-positioned to navigate the evolving bilateral relationship.
