On August 13th, 2021, AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan and President Alan Beebe visited China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and met with its Vice Chairman Mr. Fang Xinghai.
Mr. Gilligan and Mr. Fang (pictured together above) exchanged their views on several burning issues, including the recent regulatory developments towards large tech and education sector players, stand on Chinese companies looking to list offshore, future Sino-U.S. cooperation in both capital markets, etc. Mr. Gilligan also expressed AmCham’s willingness to serve as an additional channel to facilitate communications between both governments and the business community.
AmCham China President Alan Beebe with Mr. Fang
AmCham China fully respects the authority of the Chinese government to carry out such regulatory reforms, however, many changes took place within a very short period of time without sufficient time for foreign business to proactively respond. A stable and predictable business and regulatory environment is what AmCham China has been advocating for since decades ago and is crucial to foreign investor’s confidence and willingness to further expand their investment in China.
Also present at the meeting were Ms. Jiao Caixia, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Affairs, and Mr. Sui Baojian, who look after financial services and insurance sector related affairs at the Chamber.
