The AmCham China Women Professionals Committee (WPC) held its August luncheon on August 12 at the Shangri-la Hotel Tianjin. The event marked the first time in the Tianjin Chapter’s history that male allies were invited to participate and share their insights.
The event kicked off with remarks from Dr. Shumway from Tianjin United Family Hospital, who expressed his appreciation to AmCham China Tianjin for organizing the luncheon to enhance women’s equity in the workplace. Justine Qian, Tianjin Co-chair of Women Professionals Committee, emceed the event and introduce the featured speakers.
Steven Cao, Chairman at Chayora China spoke about the company’s balanced male and female employment ratio (50/50), in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Cao went on to voice his strong support for women in the IT industry through technical skill development. Karen Kesner, Head of Americas and Executive Vice President at Chayora Limited, added her comments and answered questions from moderator Michael Hart. Kesner emphasized the importance of communication, executive level support, and passion to help women build their careers.
Wrapping up the event, Martin Winchell, Managing Director-Greater China at Schneider Logistics Inc., shared his personal experience in supporting female empowerment through mentorship and career development.
The committee looks forward to welcome more female professionals and male allies to join this important initiative going forward!
