Markel Hübinette, ConocoPhillips China
Campaign Statement
Dear AmCham China Members,
My name is Markel Hübinette, President of ConocoPhillips China, and I am honored to submit my candidacy for the AmCham China Board of Governors.
For more than four decades, ConocoPhillips has been at the forefront of driving U.S.-China energy cooperation, playing an instrumental role in energy security and the bilateral collaboration in climate and low-carbon initiatives. As co-chair of the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program, ConocoPhillips has led numerous roundtables and events that foster meaningful partnerships between the two countries. This experience places ConocoPhillips in a unique position to serve as a bridge in the energy sector, especially during this critical time, where constructive dialogue and collaboration are essential.
AmCham China has been a platform for dialogue, innovation, and mutual understanding between the U.S. and China, and for the past four years, ConocoPhillips has proudly supported this mission as a Chairman Circle member. I have also actively participated in a wide range of AmCham events, including Appreciation Dinner, Business Climate Survey Launch and other high-level closed-door meetings, where I’ve had the privilege of exchanging views on the evolving business landscape and sharing insights on how we can contribute to a constructive and sustainable US-China economic relation.
Personally, China holds a special place in my heart—I first traveled here as a backpacker in 1998 and have since explored 20+ provinces and autonomous regions. I view myself as a bridge between East and West and am passionate about fostering cross-cultural understanding, cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
Earlier this year, I was honored with the Haihe Friendship Award by the Tianjin Municipal Government, recognizing my contributions to the energy industry and China’s development. I believe this underscores my deep connection with China and my commitment to enhancing U.S.-China cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
I humbly seek your support in this election. Together, we can continue to strengthen AmCham China’s role as a key player in fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration between our two great nations.
Sincerely,
Markel Hübinette
