On May 24, representatives from AmCham China commented on the current foreign investment environment during a round table discussion with Mr. Wei Jianguo, Vice Chairman of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE). This purpose of the meeting was to collect suggestions from foreign chambers to better understand challenges they are facing in foreign investment. Sungho Lee, Senior Manager of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, and Tanizaki Hideki, Chief Representative of Japan-China Investment Promotion Organization, also took part in the meeting.
Wei expressed strong interest in strengthening cooperation with foreign chambers on events, information sharing and communication. CCIEE plans to establish a communication mechanism with foreign chambers to better understand foreign companies’ needs, concerns and suggestions. Wei also mentioned that CCIEE could work as a liaison to help foreign chambers or companies arrange meetings with other Chinese governments, such as MOFCOM and NDRC.
During this three-hour meeting, AmCham introduced its three policy priories in 2016, and presented members’ concerns on investment environment, BIT, and top business challenges by quoting data from this year’s Business Climate Survey and the White Paper. All invited attendees and CCIEE agreed that a robust communication mechanism is essential for mutual understanding and to improve bilateral relations. At the table representing AmCham China were Ian Curtiss, Senior Manager for Policy Initiatives, and Sijie Wang, Government Affairs Coordinator.
