On July 3, the AmCham China Education Committee hosted the event, “Ed Talk: Philosophy of Science and Technology,” at the Chamber’s Beijing office. This event delved into a pressing question of our time: Is the notion of an AI apocalypse a myth, or could it become a reality? The audience included AmCham China members and college students.
We were also honored to have Don Howard, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, and Richard Zhang, Senior Principal AI Engineer and CTO at Intel China, join the event. They shared diverse perspectives on the AI apocalypse, grounded in both technological expertise and ethical considerations. Their discussions provided valuable examples of AI applications, helping the audience understand the true scope of AI’s impact on our future.
During the panel discussion session, Jim Lin, Brand, Communications & Social Lead at IBM China, served as the moderator. He posed a series of thought-provoking questions to Prof. Howard and Dr. Zhang, who shared their experiences, insights, and advice on navigating the future of AI applications.
The “Ed Talk” series aims to gather leading experts and educators to showcase their latest academic findings or perspectives on emerging industrial trends. It provides an open peer-to-peer platform for educators and senior corporate leaders to share and exchange professional opinions on current hot topics in the education world.
