The Energy Transition Innovation Cooperation Outreach Trip, supported by the American Division of the Ministry of Commerce of China, was held in Shenzhen from January 10 to January 12, 2024. The Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce (TDB/MOFCOM) and AmCham China’s US-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) collaborated to bring together international energy and technology companies for an exploration of cooperation opportunities in the Guangdong/Shenzhen region.
Under the leadership of Mr. Deng Bo, Deputy Director of TDB/MOFCOM, the international business study delegation included prominent companies such as ExxonMobil, Eaton, Altec, Bureau Veritas, Microsoft, Energy Transfer, California-China Smart City Institute, and others. The delegation engaged in discussions on low-carbon advanced technologies, energy transition, and innovation projects with key local stakeholders, including the Shenzhen Bureau of Commerce, Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission, Shenzhen Energy Group, China Resources Group, CGN, BYD, Tencent, Hynovation Technologies, Shenzhen Hydrogen and Fuel Association, Belt and Road Environmental Technology Exchange and Transfer Center (Shenzhen), and various local enterprises and research institutions.
The outreach trip also encompassed on-site visits to HYNOVATION, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Eaton Electric Asia Pacific R&D Center, Belt and Road Environmental Technology Exchange and Transfer Center, Shenzhen Yantian Green Port, and BYD.
The primary objective of this initiative was to focus on international, including US-China bilateral, business cooperation opportunities at the provincial/subnational level during the energy transition and innovation process. The delegation aimed to review previous cooperation experiences and results, while also identifying new opportunities through further exchange and discussion.
