Throughout the month of July, AmCham China has hosted a number of successful outreach meetings with the Chinese Government. Among these, the Chamber has had three White Paper delivery meetings, and one exclusive luncheon with Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang. Catch up on AmCham China’s July outreach work below.
On July 21, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended a luncheon hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in China. At the meeting, representatives from AmCham China member companies had the opportunity to speak frankly with Vice Minister Qin about bilateral relations, and economic, and trade cooperation between the US and China.
On the morning of July 21, 2021, AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan led representatives of AmCham China member companies to visit the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC). The group was welcomed by Vice Minister Long Guoqiang of the Development Research Center. During the visit, Vice Minister Long and AmCham China discussed how to optimize the business environment for foreign-invested enterprises under the current bilateral situation.
Also present at the meeting were Wang Jinzhao, Director General of the Research Department of Industrial Economy; Zhang Qi, Director General of the Research Department of Foreign Economic Relations; Gao Shiji, Director General of the Research Institute of Resources and Environmental Policies; Yu Jun, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department; and Guo Jiaofeng, Assistant Director General of the Research Institute of Resource and Environmental Policies.
On July 20, 2021, AmCham China President Alan Beebe, led a delegation of AmCham China member company representatives to meet with Huang Wei, Vice Minister of Science and Technology (MOST). The group exchanged views on the scientific and technological relations between the US and China and the participation of foreign-invested enterprises in China’s scientific and technological field. President Alan Beebe said that the focus of bilateral cooperation in the field should be on areas such as public health and climate change, for which the Chamber has launched the Social Impact Initiative (SII) aimed at pooling the resources of multinational enterprises (MNCs) and establishing a platform for cooperation.
Also present at the meeting were Ye Dongbai, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation; Chen Jiachang, Director General of the Department of High and New Technology; Gao Xiang, Director General of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center; Zhang Xu, Deputy Director General of the Department of Strategic Planning; Tian Baoguo, Deputy Director General of the Department of Social Development in Science and Technology; Xu Jie, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation; Li Youping Deputy Director General of the Torch High-tech Industry Development Center; Shen Jianzhong, Deputy Director General of the China Biotechnology Development Center; along with other relevant representatives of the Department of Policy, Regulations and Innovation System Construction.
On July 14, 2021, an AmCham China delegation met with Liao Min, the Vice Minister of the Office of the Central Commission for Finance and Economy and the Vice Minister of Ministry of Finance. Prior to the meeting, AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan presented the 2021 American Business in China White Paper to Vice Minister Liao and introduced the Chamber’s virtual Washington DC Outreach and the 2021 Social Impact Initiative. This was followed by an in-depth exchange on topics including the macroeconomic situation between the US and China, US-China economic and trade relations, and American business operations in China.
