Seminar for US-China Enterprises on Green Development Cooperation
On January 19, AmCham China and the China International Youth Exchange Center (CIYEC) co-hosted a seminar on green development cooperation in Beijing, bringing together over 40 representatives from US and Chinese enterprises. The event, themed Promoting Green Development Cooperation and Global Governance, provided a platform for participants to exchange industry insights and explore business opportunities in green industries, clean energy, and the low-carbon economy.
Chen Zhihua, Deputy Director of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, presented the latest developments in US-China climate change cooperation, underscoring the opportunities for collaboration. Wang Hao, Deputy Director of the Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Promotion Division, Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection at the NDRC, outlined progress in China’s “dual-carbon” initiatives. He introduced cooperation projects under the framework of the Sunnylands Statement by the US and Chinese governments and encouraged enterprises in both countries to enhance exchanges and collaborate in green and low-carbon sectors, working together to combat climate change.
Distinguished panelists, including Ye Li, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Merck China, and Weijia Wang, Vice President of Dell Technologies, engaged in discussions on New Paths for Green Development Cooperation between US-China Enterprises and Building a Green Future through Multi-Party Cooperation. Several representatives advocated for increased synergy between governments, corporations, think tanks, and social organizations to drive sustainable investment and innovation, as well as capitalize on opportunities for US-China climate cooperation.
About the Social Impact Initiative:
AmCham China launched the Social Impact Initiative in July 2020, aiming to establish a collaborative platform including stakeholders such as government bodies, domestic and foreign enterprises, international organizations, think tanks, and so on. By organizing thematic seminars, summits, and producing reports, the program shares best practices to inspire corporate social responsibility, encouraging multinational enterprises to play a more proactive role in China’s social and economic development. Upholding the principles of sharing, contributing, cooperating, and win-win outcomes, the Social Impact Initiative will continue to focus on three areas in 2024: rural revitalization, the digital economy, and sustainable development. We welcome member companies, government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and industry associations to join us on our journey of social impact.
